YouTubed

Thanks to Mike for posting this video of my talk at the University of Washington Law School, about legal issues facing activists and attorneys. (You can also check out footage of the presentations by Lauren Regan and Shannon Keith).

I haven’t really explored using YouTube or posting video. For one thing, that jerk Harry Potter totally dominates YouTube search results: a search for “Will Potter” picks up a Harry Potter puppet show, among other clips. Plus, public speaking can be embarrassing enough, but to have it floating around on the Internet? Geez. I feel so exposed. The real question, though, is: Is it effective?

What do you think? Should GreenIsTheNewRed post more video footage of speaking events? What about interviews with activists or attorneys? We need your suggestions…

Despite how Youtube is handy to share videos and all....

There are bad apples on Youtube also. Lots of'em.

They go on bashing other vegan related videos for no reason. Insecurity maybe? Well, there's lots of flagging and hating. So yeah.

Should see how many videos related to AR have "disabled comments." It's that bad...

Just thought I'd mention this. Handy to watch, yet the number of misguided users...very bad.

There's a crappy side to youtube. Despite how watching is efficient compared to reading...

There are bad apples on Youtube that just flame and flag any AR videos, because they are insecure maybe?

Well, despite how nice it is to share such info, there will be those who love to oppress on the internet also. Just thought I'd mention this.

Will- Yes to videos! I find I use videos more often than not as radio. I can find a video (like this one you've posted) and listen to it while I'm working on other projects, etc. Thanks for posting!

Definitely post videos. You're a great speaker, and it is true that people absorb things differently. Having different mediums (video, audio, written) gets the information to people in a variety of ways, and is thus more likely to have an impact.

Besides, think of how many people will stumble across you when searching for harry potter puppet shows!
  • Yes, yes, yes! Living in the Midwest, I almost never get a chance to see progressive speakers live. More video would be great!

I KNOW you aren't criticizing the HP puppet shows. They are awesome.
  • Yes, post more videos! Videos are great.
  • Yeh definately! All the militants do it these days, gets the message out twice as much if not a bit more than that. People want to see not read these days, we're unfortunately in the age of TV's are better than books - so as you can probably imagine YouTubes are becoming the new BlogSpaces. It'll be bigger than myspace in no time - if it isn't already! Don't miss out on the fun.
