It was inspiring to come back from two speaking events in Minneapolis and find an inbox full of emails about Green Scare events around the world.

To highlight just a few…

From activists in Durban, South Africa:

In response to the call for a global day of action in solidarity with Greenscare indictees, people in Durban gathered outside the local U.S. Consulate at 303 West Street, right in the city centre. A banner reading “Durban Against the Greenscare” was raised and fliers with information on the case were handed out to those passing by.

A small contribution to the global day of action, to show them we’re truly everywhere!

From activists in Athens, Greece:

On Wednesday 7/12, world day of solidarity, there was a manifestation for informing people and paying solidarity, at the University Propylaea, in Athens centre. Despite a meeting of some fascist groups, at the same time in a nearby place, and the increased presence of riot police forces all around the area, there was no problem in holding the event.

And from activists in Austin, Texas:

An evening in support of revolutionaries, activist, and People fighting for Justice, the Earth, and Animal Liberation that are facing severe repression in the united states due to political activities.

An evening in honor of the Movements of the past, present and the future and all who have worked to envision a beautiful, just and sustainable world to live in.

My choice in highlighting the Austin event was another completely unbiased, objective journalistic decision having nothing to do with the title of their event. Really.

our new jersey function was small, but attended by mostly non-activists who got to learn about daniel mcgowan's case and the green scare for the first time, which was important. we wish we could have been in two places at once though, also showing our support in NYC!
  • Thanks for posting those links to the NY actions. Activists in NY have done an amazing job coming out in force to show support for Daniel McGowan and others, through fundraisers, benefit concerts, dinners and a variety of other events that have helped build community as well. Here's a link to remarks at the NY rally:

our rally in nyc to support daniel mcgowan went really well. despite cold weather, it was attended by 80 people and they listened to a great speaker list of NLG executive director Heidi Boghosian, Staff attorney at CCR, Rachel Meeropol, former prisoner of war and Black Panther Ashanti Alston and Tim Doody of Family and Friends of Daniel McGowan.
