The dog had been left for days at a time by its owner and evidence of abuse and neglect came to light during the time I had him. I received no help from the RSPCA and the Police and Courts ignored evidence from a dog behaviourist. My witnesses weren't heard in court, at the "advice" of my solicitor. I was released in May 2009 and the police continue to harass my partner as they can't charge me with the same crime twice. I am not an "activist"; I have never been in trouble with the police. I am a 60 year old retired teacher. I simply could not return the dog to that life so my sentence was for Contempt of Court. My courage is somewhat lacking, unlike Sarah, who told me she would do 5 years to save that dog. An incredibly brave woman. It cries at night and has been in this predicament for some months. Again, the RSPCA have been informed on several occasions to no avail. I warned them to be careful about breaking the law in the light of recent oppression, though they might well get away with it since they are not known activists! What Sarah did is no more or less than any decent person with compassion would do in the same circumstances. There but for the Grace of God go I.
