Japanese should have thrown them overboard but showed restraint by not doing so. If you board a ship illegally, they can kill you or whatever they want since it is an act of piracy on the high seas. All of the whaling ships belong to the ICR which is a Japanese government owned agency, hency the whaling ships are property of the government of Japan. If someone did this on a US ship they would have Seal Team 6 up their butts real quick

Boarding a vessel without permission is piracy.

Held hostage? Please, they could have been executed for what they did.

@beforewisdom:

Sea Shepherd says that the whalers didn't respond to radio calls (so I guess that would mean they didn't get permission) and Watson argues that there is legal precedent for boarding a ship to deliver a letter of intent (not sure if that's true or not, I don't know much about martime law). Best, Will

Does anyone know if the activists from the Sea Shepard asked for permission to board the Japanese whaling ship? Isn't that a maritime law or custom? I'm just wondering if not doing so could be mistaken for a hostile act similar to going into someone's house without asking them first.
