I think the US and the UK have over-reacted to real terrorism; which is understandable but not ideal, however giving corporations the ability to cast the terror net further is truly awful. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/law_in_action/8339958.stm may be of interest to hear the views of Sir Ken Macdonald, the Director of Public Prosecutions for England and Wales during high profile terror attacks, on too much legislation.
