Are there any lawyers reading this (other than police agents who are paid to read this) who can figure out what Congress actually passed? It appears that there was a last minute substitute of the original text which just today (Oct. 2) is available on the Thomas Congressional record online. As best as I can tell, simply threatening "loss of profits" is no longer considered terrorism, but the AETA otherwise retains all the felony terrorist offenses for peaceful boycott campaigns.

Of course, now that Congress has repealed the entire history of civil liberties dating back to the Magna Carta, anyone can be indefinitely imprisoned for any length of time, without the need to bother with trials.

I'm sorry the quotation was cut off, maybe becauwe it was in caps? I'm quoting it below:

Margaret Mead said:

The difficult we do at onece, the impossible takes a little longer.

After we've emptied our hearts of our lamentations, we're ALL going to have to put our heads together and start thinking of HOW we could revert this law? Yes, it IS going to be THE most difficult task since the ENTIRE congress voted for this dictatorial law...but Margaret Mead's saying should give us the impetus we need?:

>

Let's try to do it!!! ;o)

Who came up with this bright idea? Obviously it came from amoung the like minds who support the warmongering in the White House and our getting our soldiers killed overseas.

Since when is preventing violence terrorism? This is coming from the same government that has allowed terrorists to immigrate to the U.S.

People should write to their senators and voice their outrage of such a Bill. IMHO, if it is not overturned, do not elect these people back into office.

Hasn't anyone notice that this bill is in violation of the constituional right of freedom of assembly?

What's next? Are the people who try to prevent spouse and child abuse going to be considered terrorists as well?

It is time for Americans to wake up and do something about the suppression of our freedoms!!!

When more consideration seemingly goes into a piece of substandard, un-American legislation such as this than went into the Iraqi war, we are in deep trouble. Very deep. So unfortunate that everyone seems to be buying into the "9/11 syndrome".

This is so disconcerting! It amazes me that we call our society a democracy and yet bills like this can be passed and more easily by being attached to completely different bills (in this case, the Port Security Authorization bill). It's so manipulative! If this AETA bill really becomes law, our movement is in serious trouble. If that comes to pass, I think we will have to form some sort of legislative action coalition with the big groups like PETA and HSUS pouring money into a campaign/lawsuit to overturn the
law on the grounds that it is unconstitutional...maybe take it to the Supreme Court if that's what it takes.

Considering an estimated 1 million veg/AR activists in the U.S. currently (which is probably a gross overestimation), and the 10 billion animals exploited and killed in the U.S. each year (which is probably a significant underestimation), the ratio of activists to suffering animals who need us as their voice is 1
to 10,000. That's pretty astounding when you consider the chilling impact this law will have and the resultant loss of voice for the animals. Very depresssing, indeed. I think we need to get the major AR and AW groups on board with this reality and pound the House of Reps with phone calls, letters, lobbying visits and emails when they come back from recess.

Those who torture, terrorize and kill animals for fun and/or profit always get what they want from their puppets in the United States Congress. There’s no justice, there’s just us.
