I'm very disappointed in the ACLU; how they purposely distance themselves from the animal liberation movement. My experience with them is that they're very self-interested. In other words, if a cause (case) suits their agenda, then they'll take it to build their existing (?) reputation. When I turned to them about the difficulties I had with a local state's attorney where I used to live, they told me I probably had a case but blew me off.
