Wow. Well, at first I was shocked to here that Hustler (yes, that Hustler, the porn magazine) ran a feature on the SHAC 7 and the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (and a very sympathetic one at that). But, then again, some of the leading First Amendment attorneys involved in these “Green Scare” cases made their […]

Fear and Rage: Responding to the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act and the Green Scare
Posted in Activists' Response, Federal, Legal, Legislation, Operation Backfire, SHAC 7 on Jul 27th, 2007
A few folks asked that I post this, so here goes. It’s the audio and text from the plenary speech I gave at the national animal rights conference in Los Angeles, about how people choose respond to the fear created by the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, “terrorism enhancements” and the Green Scare more broadly. Audio of SHAC 7 Panel Discussion
Posted in Federal, Legal, Legislation, SHAC 7 on Jul 27th, 2007
This is an excerpt from the SHAC 7 panel discussion at the recent animal rights conference, with me and Andrea Lindsay discussing the trial and what it means for activists of all social movements. I cut out some of the back-and-forth near the end, because the sound quality wasn’t so hot.

War is Peace: How “Eco-terrorist” Scare-mongering Helped Pass the AETA

In September, the night before lawmakers left for mid-term campaigning, the Senate rushed to pass the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act: the mainstream press remained silent. Yesterday, the House pushed through identical legislation that labels non-violent activists as “terrorists”: still, the mainstream press remained eerily silent. The only coverage I’ve seen is from the Associated Press, […]
Watching History Repeat Itself: An Account of the SHAC 7 Sentencing

Many people have emailed me to ask why I still haven’t posted a recap of the SHAC 7 sentencing, and I don’t know what to say. That’s the problem. Every time I have sat down to write about last week’s sentencing of the SHAC 7, I’ve failed. I’ve become paralyzed. I’ve tried dumping all my […]

Posted in Activists' Response, SHAC 7, Uncategorized on Sep 20th, 2006
It remains to be seen how the animal rights and environmental movements will respond to the sentencing of the SHAC 7, but one thing seems to be clear: it hasn’t phased underground, illegal activists one bit.
On Tuesday, Wayne Parry of the Associated Press quoted a spokeswoman for the SHAC 7 saying that the government’s […]

Both were ordered to pay into the $1,000,001 restitution.
Andy must turn himself in to begin his sentence within 15 days, and Darius must turn himself in […]
