After seeing that video last night I'm sorry I wasted my time with a letter to him. It's sad that he's in a position of power.

previously featured here on GNR defending a drunk-driving colleague

Well that's a delicious bit of irony right there. I'd wager a bet that drunk drivers have "terrorized" more individuals and families than Niceley's "left-wing eco-greenies." And by "terrorized" I mean "killed."

I've never said I wasn't naive. So in keeping with that, I just e-mailed Frank Niceley:

Dear Rep. Frank Niceley:

I read about your push for an eco-terrorism bill in Tennessee and wanted to tell you a bit about animal advocates.

I support animal rights, which means I believe animals (both human and nonhuman) should be treated with compassion and respect. We are all God's creatures, aren't we? So it only makes sense to take care of what God created.

Terrorists are people like those who hijacked planes on Sept. 11, 2001, and murdered thousands of innocent people.

Animal advocates have never done that.

Eco-terrorists should actually be defined as people who terrorize and destroy our environment, not people who want to help our environment stay pristine and who want to clean up pollution.

Please rethink who the terrorists really are.

Matt: You're absolutely right. I might have been a bit too tongue in cheek at points. I tweaked the post to try to make it more clear. Thanks, Will

I think it might be good to point out that the FBI does not describe PETA as the number one domestic terrorist group in the US. It's a 501(c)(3) corporation. If it was thought of as a terrorist organization, at the very least, they would suspend their 501(c)(3) status, and would likely have arrested Ingrid Newkirk.
