Cartoonist Compares ELF to Al-Qaeda
Apr 4th, 2008 by Will Potter
Eric Devericks of The Seattle Times published this little gem comparing the Earth Liberation Front to Al Qaeda.
I’ll sit this one out, except to say that there have been plenty of questions raised as to whether the recent arsons outside of Seattle were even an ELF action.
What do you all think?

What do you all think?
I’d never heard of Eric Devericks before today - so my opinion of him is based solely on the blog post to which you link - but I think he comes off like a major douche. Dude is blogging for a large publication, and he can’t muster an ounce of professionalism in interacting with his readers.
No to mention, even the police are questioning whether this is the work of ELF. Way to fact check.
same ole same ole right? typical fear monger tactics designed to steer americans to the idea they need the protection of a tyrannical police state.
what i’m most disturbed by is there’s a McCain banner on your blog…
Doesn’t surprise me. The peoples comments below show the control that this government has over the people though. They follow like sheep obediently agreeing with everything that big brother says.
This is nothing more than blatant propaganda considering that I’m sure he reads the Seattle Times, and I’m sure he seen the article which was pointed out earlier on this website as to the Seattle Times article which was raising questions about the arson being the result of ELF.
It’s also annoying that their still using this incendiary device bullshit when there were none found, but of course, what can we expect? They back up those with ecocidal visions while attacking those who want to stop them. Those who are killing the earth get off and those who are defending it get put away. This is by no means a backwards world we’re living in.

Ha ha. Weird, huh? I think I’m going to stop using GoogleAds, because some of the ads the program is placing are just so bizarre. There have also been a lot of “anti-terrorism training program” ads. If anyone has a suggestion for a replacement, let me know. Will
The cartoon would work better if it kept the same dialog, but changed the characters. For ELF, we substitute a developer with bags of money, destroying the natural world with huge mansions. For Osama, his buddy Bush.
At least the terrorists fight for something. ELF are just dumb spoiled rich kids that have no interest in doing something besides self-aggrandizement.
The sad thing is that any trouble ELF members get themselves into makes them think that their actions are somehow justified.
Too bad all the energy of ELF can’t be harnessed into making the world a better place instead.
I certainly don’t believe the ends justify the means, but that only goes to my main point, which is that this cartoon should never have been drawn.
It’s a bit of an oversimplification comparing a group that has murdered innocents to a group whose actions have resulted in 0 deaths.
I mentioned the green scare in Sociology class today. The professor thought it was a good point, but the comment failed to draw any response from the 40 people in the classroom. This always discourages me, considering that I even alluded to the idea of condoning property destruction.
That it’s stupid.
The idea that the ends justify the means is an assumption shared by a huge amount of people from the man in the street to the US government. So presuming this guy’s in favour of the US system, he’s bought into that himself. It’s not a magic shibboleth which, if you can say it, proves you’re a terrorist.
That’s aside from the obvious ridiculousness of an ELF/ al Qaeda comparison.
I think its a great cartoon and gets right to the point…both groups are terrorist.
