Problem with trying to protect the environment, while clearly a great and just cause, is that so many resources vital for construction and daily progress come from there. Halting destruction of forests and etc... would be halting the economy, stopping global trade and ruining the world. Destroying property, that's just more resources needed to rebuild them. First come up with an alternative resource before doing anything drastic. Also keep in mind that some people just wouldn't care and the whole problem begins anew. You can't control the world's population and their activities with absolution, there are always those who don't care for the rules and instead only for themselves. This is free will, which human beings are prone to try and exercise.

First, I will say that those who commit violence in the name of the ecological movement are deeply hurting the movment they are professing to support.

I agree that quick action is needed to disengage the economy from the path of environmental desruction it is now on. But there are methods other than violence. The most important is to distribute information.

If violence continues, it will just be used by those in power to justify their restrictions on our ability to ditribute information, and we will be worse off than where we started from.

However, clearly it is very wrong to use the terrorism enhancement provisions against people who took great care to not hurt real living people. So, yes, unfortunately those deluded folks who wrongly followed a path of violence should actually go to prison.

However, it is deeply wrong to equate them with terrorists. That essential message is one that nearly all reasonable people will support, and it needs to be gotten out there.

Remember that great photograph from the civil rights movement:"I AM A MAN"?

We just need something that simple, maybe even the same words, getting out the message that those accussed are man (or women) not 'terrorists'

Kevin R said
when I see someone speeding on the freeway in their SUV, I just follow them and slash their tires when they aren’t looking!
I’m sending a message that excessive fossil fuel use is BAD…and I’m NOT HARMING ANYONE!

Do you think they get it? Or do you think that what they're more likely to get are new tires? Have you saved the environment from the SUV's emissions, or have you cost the environment the emissions of the creation of a new set of tires?

What usually brings awareness to important issues? Chaos? Suffering? Death? Destruction? Our species only pays serious attention when individuals go crazy and make a lot of noise. Unfortunately this is who we are.
Terrorism then isn't so bad if that's what it takes to bring the truth out and forces some of us to think. I'm not concerned with buildings, houses, cars, or anything else that doesn't breath. I'm concerned with the living, animals, people, earth!!
By the way I don't like SUV'S either and I think they should all be destroyed!!! You may end up thanking a terrorist someday for destroying yours.

There have alrready been millions of deaths due to an over consumptive lifesyle in the states. Ignorance will not protect you when there is no more clean air to breathe or water to drink. Bringing the Chinook Salmon to the brink of extiction and the massive slaughter that was perpetrated on the indeigenous people here on the west coast is truly terrifying!those who choose to keep their head in the sand leave exposed an even more vulnerable body part......

It isn't terrorism, and to call it such, cheapens the definition of the word "terrorism".

Perhaps if you had your home or business destroyed you might feel differently about the issue.

The environmental terrorists are using firebombs as a means of seeking political goals. That is absolutely terrorism. The fact that they aren't killing people means that it's well planned terrorism tailored for American domestic consumption, but it is certainly terrorism nonetheless.

Those self-rightous creeps deserve as much prison as we can possibly give them.

Environmental activists who destroy private property should NOT be treated as "terrorists!"
After all, when I see someone speeding on the freeway in their SUV, I just follow them and slash their tires when they aren't looking!
I'm sending a message that excessive fossil fuel use is BAD...and I'm NOT HARMING ANYONE!

PS-I bet you're glad there aren't more people like me.
PSS-I bet you're glad I don't live NEAR YOU!

Its not terrorism because nobody has been killed? Okay can we call it terrorism when somebody is killed? Its just a matter of time to when there will be a death.
