Because it's not a law that could be "used" by a citizen, and the law certainly hasn't been used against 100 defendants and a former attorney general. It was used against Justin Samuel and Peter Young for fur farm raids, and then against the SHAC7. (That's according to my own research, and also according to congressional testimony by FBI and DOJ). Are you sure you are talking about the AETA (or, at that time, the Animal Enterprise Protection Act)? I have suffereed nothing but harassment ever since I came forward and blew the whistle on Tyson, publicly and fearlessly telling of their illegal and unethical activities, and then, just for fun and because they harassed me first, added in the actions of a few corrupt cops who support them. Boy, but did I stir up one hell of an anthill! I really wish I could have been at this year's conference to hear you and others talk, like I was last year when I gave a plenary talk, but I just couldn't make it again - not enough $$$$$. Besides, we're building a house and rehabbing some rescues right now. So, bad timing, too. I wish I could hear what you had to say by clicking on the little arrow, but out here in the boonies, we only get very S-L-O-W dial-up, and I can only hear a few words, then a pause, then a few more - MADDENING! But I can about guesss what it is, anyway, because I have been following this pretty closely, especially as I have also been called the "T" word (though I have no idea what my "T-level" is - how does one figure that out????) and even interrogated, among other things. I intend to pass along the URL to your site, as this issue is more important than many activists realize. They really and truly believe that if they don't commit any crime and only peacefully protest, that they won't be targeted. Well, that's what I used to think, too. That is, until I was indeed targeted. Even accused of crimes I didn't commit. Wiretapped. Searched. Even set up and arrested. Etc. etc. Fellow Activists - be scared - very scared. What he says is right. But, fight back - fight back HARD! - don't shrink from this fight, don't just talk the talk, but really and truly walk the walk (you are NOT alone!), and be proud. And be LOUD!
